Csrss.exe is indeed a Windows process that was written by Microsoft for the stable running of the computer and is responsible for managing the graphical instructions that are related to the windows operating system. Terminating this program is not recommended because csrss.exe is essential for the proper functioning of applications and should be run all the time. This program if genuine comes under C/Windows/system32 and in order to verify this you can run the task manager through which you can identify if csrss.exe is legitimate or not.

If csrss.exe does not come under the Windows system 32 in C Drive, then it has to be a Trojan or virus and immediate action must be taken to remove it from the PC so that it does not create a security threat to the user’s personal details. A Trojan csrss.exe could allow a hacker from an outside location to access the computer and get the password and other financial details and therefore the Trojan csrss.exe should be disabled as soon as possible.

In order to disable the csrss.exe you have to first and foremost locate it. To do so, you have to go to Start – Search and find if it comes under Windows system 32. When you check the windows Service Pack Files i386 directories, you will see the csrss.exe files which should be checked to see if the date stamp and the last modified date is identical or not., if its not, it means that the csrss.exe files have been infected. Since the csrss.exe starts running when the computer is booted, it should also not appear in the Startup folder. If it does, remove it because it is a file that should not be there.

Warning

Be careful however that you don’t delete a legitimate csrss.exe file because it is necessary for the stable running of your computer and removing it might also cause the Blue Screen of Death. Try somehow to identify if the csrss.exe file is genuine or not before deciding to remove it.
