How to Fix Csrss.exe

If you have an error with Csrss.exe—or it’s corrupt—using Windows can be difficult task. The Client-Server Runtime Subsystem is a core Windows program that initiates DLL’s, or Dynamic Link Library. Common symptoms of the Csrss.exe problem are the “Blue Screen of Death” as it’s been dubbed, frozen windows, ongoing instability while using Windows and so forth.

So – how to fix Csrss.exe?

To eliminate any vulnerability or threat in Windows, proceed to verify that your operating system is up-to-date. This means you should have the latest service pack (for XP—SP3/Vista—SP2), the latest updates (essentially security patches) for Adobe and JAVA applications and finally—your automatic updates on all of the above should be enabled.

Got all above bases covered? Good. You should have been prompted to reboot the system at least once, so now you want to repeat the actions that you normally do when the Csrss.exe problem arises. Is it still there?

Start the task manager and browse to the Processes tab. You’ll see a long list of programs (most of which are running in the background and components of Window’s architecture). Find Csrss and observe how much memory it’s using. If the meter registers more than 2500 kilobits a second (or greater than about 20% of resources) you may have a problem.

How to fix Csrss.exe according to your O/S

If you’re an XP user, it could be that you have a corrupted Csrss.exe system. So how do I fix csrsss.exe in this case? Drastic as it may be, you might have to delete the user account you receive the error messages on. If the error is on more than one user account, this will not be the case. In this case, you need a good virus and spyware cleanup tool—and it must include a registry repair tool or service.

If your computer uses Vista, it’s probably a virus, Trojan or other form of malware. Can you connect to the internet—without any interference from the Csrss.exe error (or any other error for that matter)? If so, download a solid, trusted virus protection and/or spyware tool like McAfee, AVG, MalwareBytes or WebRoot.
